pay water
Definition
Not far from sq'wt'u was the village of hnselut "whirlpool", near Rose Lake. The village is named after a place in the river where canoes stopped mysteriously and many people were killed. This place is also called qhaq'kwe' "pay water" because one could escape the anger of the spirit by making a payment.
