sile' "maternal grandfather" is the name of a small lake near Cheney. The name can be used for Cheney itself. Warriors camped at sile' just before the Steptoe battle of 1858, according to Robert I. Burns in his book The Jesuits and the Indian Wars of the Northwest (1966).
