The term is from Teit, who wrote, "Handles of spears were of various kinds of wood, particulalrly an unidentified wood called seleqa'lqw." Compare słaq. A root of the form leq, if that is what this linguistic root actually is, could have the meanings 'bury' or 'pull out.'
