Definition
hnch'mqinkwe' is the village where Father DeSmet first met with the Coeur d'Alene in 1842 before he sent Father Nicholas Point to establish the mission at st'uts'te'wes on the St. Joe River. At that time, there were fish traps at the outlet of the Spokane River and the mouth of the St. Joe.
