Photograph of ‘ilewselikéecet (John Pinkham), a Nez Perce warrior, who fought in the Nez Perce Wars of 1877. This young man, who was given the name "‘ilewselikéecet ," along with five other men escaped the fighting at the ‘ickum’kiléelixpe (Big Hole Battle). The group successfully reached their home on the Nez Perce Reservation in Lapwai, Idaho without being discovered by government troops. Eventually, he was sent to the Native American territory with other prisoners.
