Ceremonial robe

Cultural Narrative:

This robe was made by Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) peoples specifically for L.V. McWhorter. The robe was sewn from buckskin and designed with various patterns painted in bright blue, yellow, and red. This item was considered a "ceremonial" robe made for and given to McWhorter, but it is unknown which specific Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) ceremony it was to be worn. Though it is undetermined who created this robe or when it was originally made, it was most likely made by a Nimíipuu (Nez Perce) woman in the early 1900s due to the time period L.V. McWhorter was living in the state of Washington.
