Gathering Basket

Description: 

Folded, one piece, cedar bark basket, sewn at sides with bark strip. Base indented. Twig lashed to rim with cedar strip. Twig ends lashed with cord. Two buckskin loops on one side. Cedar strip tied around basket, six inches from top. Strip of textile tied onto rim as handle. There is a cord loop midway between the top and bottom.,length: 21"; Width at Top: 8"

This one is stitched together with the cedar not string.  Philomena Nome

They would go down by the river and get the roots off of the trees right by the water. These were the best for making the baskets, that way they were waterproof and a tighter weave. Caryldene Swan
