On verso of photograph, an unidentified source wrote "Chief Peo Peo Tholekt (Pelican) Warrior Nez Perce War 1875. War Narration in MSS written by L.V. McWhorter, Idaho." piyopyóot’alikt (Peo-Peo Tholekt or George Peo) was a decorated Nez Perce warrior. During the 1877 conflict, piyopyóot’alikt (Peo Peo Tholekt) served under the command of ’elelímyeté’qenin’ (Chief Looking- Glass). During the ‘ickum’kiléelixpe (Big Hole Battle), piyopyóot’alikt (Peo Peo Tholekt) assisted in capturing and dismantling a howitzer.
