Studio portrait of wetyétmes wahayqt (John Minthorn) wearing a long plaid tunic over his c’apkiláakt (breech cloth) and xe’xépil (leggings). His Nez Perce name was wetyétmes wahayqt (Swan Necklace). A piece of paper accompanying this image stated that "He (Swan Necklace) joined two companions, Sarpsis Ilpilp and Wahlitits, in the first killing of white men which precipitated the Nez Perce War. His identity was never revealed by his fellow warriors, and he lived on the Nez Perce Reservation for years under the name of John Minthorn. He died on the reservation in the late twenties."
