Two Nez Perce women, identified as sisters, Colville Indian Reservation, Washington, ca. 1900-1910.

Description:

Two young women sit on chairs dressed with earrings, necklaces, moccasins. They each hold cornhusk bags. Caption on negative sleeve: Two squaws with beadwork. Note from unidentified source: Two sisters holding cornhusk bags, probably Nez Perce. Note from researcher: These are the daughters of Jim Billy and his wife Yumatwy (Eyomotwy). They are Alpiato Billy (Billie) aka Alpiato or Alice Waters aka Wash-e-tone-my and Annie Billy (Billie) aka Yupchasin or Upchasin aka Wa-hem-pum. They are my paternal grand-aunts - sisters to my grandfather, Tom Billy. There is at least one other picture of them together. Alpiato is the mother of Art Circle (Art's father was Charlie Wilpocken), who is also in some of the pictures in your collection.
