Wetatonmi wife of ’álok’at (Alokat)

Cultural Narrative:

Wetatonmi was married to ’álok’at (Alokat), a warrior in the Nez Perce war of 1877 and brother of hinmatóoyalahtq’it (Chief Joseph). Wetatonmi delivered a horse to ’álok’at (Alokat) in the midst of battle when she heard from a warrior that her husband's horse had been killed. Without a horse he would have been easy prey for government troops or citizen volunteers. ’álok’at (Alokat) was killed during the c'aynim 'alikinwaaspa (Battle of Bear Paw). Later on, she remarried, taking the name Mrs. Susie Convill. She is holding her child from her second marriage.
