Description:
Xanita baking salmon on sticks and open fire.
Cultural Narrative:
"Nancy Martin lived in Kahneeta and she knew all the areas and she did a lot of digging roots and last I heard was when the soldiers and the Paiutes were looking for them she knew where to hide. She did a lot of trading with her roots. She'd ride clear to the Columbia River to trade.
She raised my great-grandmother, Isabelle Johnson-Palmer. Isabelle's mother (Stella) died giving birth to her and Xanita raised her. I am the sixth generation from Xanita on my father's side.
She always broke horses, selling horses to the army." - Submitted by Rosalind Johnson
